Cub Scouts

ages 8 to 11

The undeniable heart and soul of the group, with the added benefit of the funniest, smartest and best looking leadership team, Cub Scouts is for young people aged 8 to 11 years, and focuses on exploring the outdoors, discovery and learning interesting things! Cub Scouts belong to a Unit and begin to learn leadership and teamwork in small teams called Patrols.

If you enjoy fun, games and learning new skills then you’ll love being a Cub Scout! You’ll get to go on camps with your Unit, and you might attend a Cuboree camp with hundreds of other Cub Scouts! As well as learning things like how to use a compass, you’ll go on bushwalks, bike trips, and have the chance to do things like sailing, canoeing, abseiling and sometimes even flying!

Your Cub Scout Leader will help you along the way and encourage you to take part. You’ll learn life-long skills, make friends and have fun! Cub Scouts are keen to learn, belong, and have fun, so our activities are designed to stimulate their emotional and adventurous spirits.

Friendship & Belonging

Making new friends and building social skills are very important for Cub Scouts. For some, belonging to Cub Scouts provides an opportunity to mix with a new group of people, developing their confidence and ability to make new friends. Cub Scout families are welcome to get involved too! There’s lots of opportunities for the whole family to make new friends and feel part of the community too.

Adventure

Cub Scouts are always having adventures. You might get to go abseiling, rock climbing, go-karting, sailing or canoeing. There’s lots of camping to be done, and your Pack might go on a Pack Holiday together to somewhere you’ve never been before.

Leadership & Community

Cub Scouts learn valuable life skills such as leadership and taking responsibility for themselves. They are taught the value of citizenship and how to give back to their communities. All these opportunities are provided at Cub Scouts.

Uniform and Badges

Cub Scouts wear a blue polo or button-up shirt with yellow sleeves. They will also be given a scarf and badges to sew on the uniform. One of the best things about Cub Scouts are the hundreds of badges you can earn to sew on your uniform. There’s sure to be something that takes your interest!

When you first talk to the Cub Scout Leader about joining, they will give you information about what to wear and bring to your first meeting. You can buy your Cub Scout uniform at Scout Shop.

Child Safe Scouting

The number one priority for Scouts Australia is Child Safe Scouting.

All Leaders are thoroughly screened, undergo the relevant State checks, and must hold a valid, verified Working with Children check.
Adult Leaders receive comprehensive, ongoing training across a range of subjects including leadership, WHS, and child protection.
At least one person trained in first aid attends all major events.
At least two adults are present at all meetings and events.
We will liaise with you to ensure we have the information necessary to cater for your child’s individual medical, physical and dietary requirements.
All Scouts Australia Branches have teams of people responsible for child safety who action any concerns that parents or children may have regarding safety.
